This is my first book that I have read by Haven Cage and it will not be the last. I mean I have never read a book so true to the times. I get nervous when I read books that are from years ago because sometimes it is not true to the culture and events that are happening but Haven did an amazing job of writing this story that hooked me right from the beginning and I could not put it down. I had to stay up late to finish this book but I loved every minute of it.
In this story we meet Vivie and Lt. Dean Vitson. Vivie is a lounge singer and waitress and Dean is a Lt. in the army. Vivie has a secret that she keeps near and dear to her and she loves her secret life. It calls to her and she can't help but be hooked and do what she does. That is until she meets Dean and she wants to change.
Dean is a Lt. in the Army and has a secret life as well. He has a past that could destroy his future but he thinks he can have a new beginning with Vivie.
Will their past destroy their future.........

Haven has done it again! OMG where do I begin with this review. I loved it because it is written after The American Civil War and the setting is lovely. I love how Haven described things and the way they talked was amazing. Plus Savannah Georgia is my favorite place I want to go visit. I love the history of it and the stories that come from there are amazing.
We meet Synthia, Edison, and Salis. Synthia is in a relationship with Edison and she wants out. He is not who he used to be and he has changed for the worse. All he thinks about is money and revenge and he has Synthia doing things she does not want to do but she knows she has to do it or else he will have his younger help do the deeds.
Now Edison wants Salis dead but Synthia can't do it because Salis has given her frozen heart a thaw and she wants him and she wants to be with him and not Edison anymore but what is she to do. Edison asks her to kill him and if she doesn't then he will ask the younger maid. What is Synthia to do? Will she go with her heart or will she kill again for the greedy Edison?
