Kaidans Seduction Presents a Review for With Friends Like These by Alissa Lee

Synopsis:
A group of Harvard alums have played a secret game for decades but as the stakes rise, deadly consequences emerge from old lies. An unputdownable debut thriller for readers of the suspenseful novels of Julia Bartz and Ruth Ware.

Harvard promised them everything.

Ambitious futures, peers who pushed each other toward their absolute best, and an education that would open doors for the rest of their lives. And though they started out as roommates, Sara, Bee, Dina, Allie, Wesley, and Claudine soon became family. They had their whole bright lives ahead of them—until their senior year, when a shocking tragedy changed everything.

Twenty years later, five of the roommates still indulge in a secret tradition they’ve kept alive since their campus the Circus, a harmless elimination-style “killing” game played across the private rooms and hidden alleys of New York City. The game is a nod to their younger selves and a tribute to the sixth roommate they lost too young. But this year, Sara wants out of the game—until she discovers there is a small fortune awaiting the winner of this final round.

As the Circus unfolds, Sara begins to suspect that the others aren’t playing by the rules, and as the danger turns real and the old friends start pointing fingers, she discovers that even those closest to her harbor secrets of their own…secrets that could kill.

Review:

I have to start this review off by saying that this book really surprised me. I started reading it and it started out slow then started to get real interesting and then that ending it was great. I was really thinking one person was going to win then someone else won and I was like what the hell.

The story is about a group of girls who went to college together. It is at Harvard they room together and become friends. Sara, Bee, Dina, Allie, Claudine, and Wesley are all roommates and they do everything together. They even join in this secret game called The Circus. It is at one of these games that Claudine dies and Sara feels responsible for her death. Even though Claudine is dead they don't stop playing the game. They continue to play it year after year long into adulthood.

This year is different because Sara doesn't want to play the game anymore and she tells the others but they all convivence her to play it one last time. She is hesitant to play but she agrees and she starts playing the game. Only as she is playing the game some things start to happen and she wonders if it is worth it to continue playing or not.

This story was wild for me because there was so much going on that I had to stop and think about things. Then I would piece it together and just when I thought I had it all figured out I was wrong. This is one of those books that has you on your toes reading it because you just don't know where it is going and who is going to do what.

I want to thank Atria Books and Sierra Swanson and Net-galley for allowing me to read an arc copy of this book.
