My Review
5 of 5 Descent Of Blood
First I have to say that I love Vampire stories and I love stories with history in them. So when I picked up this book and started reading about The War of the Roses I was hooked! It is England 1465 and the war has started but something else is brewing amoungst the mortals and they have no idea what it is. The vampires are feeding off of the blood loss and filling up on the spoils of war. What more can a vampire ask for.
Vampire Prince Severian Pearce is fighting in this battle and is staked by a beautiful mortal Meridian. Instead of being angry and taking her out he is instantly intrigued by her. He is not sure what the connection is and why it is happening but he feels connected to her. Then they figure out that the are to protect the secret and the secret is the red veil. The red veil is the strongest bond a human and a vampire can have. All Severian knows is that his love for Meridian is so strong he will do anything to keep her safe.
I loved the history in this story and the romance was perfect. It was not forced or made to be rushed but happened and the red veil just made the love stronger for them. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to see how the author is going proceed with the red veil love connection.

My Review
5 of 5 Ascent To Blood
Ascent of Blood is the first book in this series and I have to say that the author had me on the prequel so going into this book I had more knowledge of the world and what was going on. I have to say that Elizabeth Marx took it and stepped it up about 100 notches because I was hooked right from chapter one. It is 1990 Cardiff Wales and Sebastian Pearce is waiting for his bride. Yes see the last name.... Pearce he is the son of a mortal woman and an immortal father. You need to read the prequel to appreciate what I am talking about. See Sebastian's mother can carry immortal children.
Fast forward to 1990 where the vampires living no longer need human blood for sustenance. Sebastian is waiting on his virgin bride and while passing the time waiting for the perfect woman who is going to be with him forever he hooks up with a crazy succubus who will not let go of Sebastian. He has made it clear he is waiting for his virgin bride but what he gets shocks him to the core.
Sebastian is brought a mortal girl Everleigh as a present. The minute he sees her he feels the connection and knows that something is off about her. He can't smell her blood and he finally realizes what that must mean. But he is confused because Ever is no virgin and she is in fact carrying another vampires baby. Lord what is Sebastian to do? He feels the red veil pull and knows he is the one but lord he never thought he was getting a fire cracker for a mate.
Ever is no nonsense and does not throw herself at Sebastian like he thought she would. She is funny, snarky and does what she wants. But even she can't deny the pull she has towards Sebastian. Will they come together or will the evil forces keep them apart?
About the Author:
Windy City writer, Elizabeth Marx, brings cosmopolitan life alive in her fiction—a blend of romance, fast-paced Chicago living, and a sprinkle of magical realism. Elizabeth resides with her husband, girls, and two cats who’ve spelled everyone into believing they’re really dogs. She grew up in the city, has traveled extensively, and still says there’s no town like Chi-Town.

Tee,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for reading and reviewing the Red Veil Series. I'm so happy you enjoyed Severian and Meridian's journey in the past and Everleigh and Sebastian's struggle in the future. There's plenty more to come with Cain, Gillian, and the seven houses of vampires.
