Title: Unsettled: A Novel
Author: SC Ellington
Release Date: 10th December 2013
Genre: Adult Romance

Synopsis

After a horrific breakup with her long time boyfriend, Brooklyn Caldwell is completely disenchanted with the notion of mingling with the opposite sex. Damon Williams had been everything she thought she wanted…until he wasn’t.

In an attempt to escape her heartbreaking past, Brooklyn seeks refuge in bustling Washington DC where she folds into the fast paced society unnoticed…until she meets a young entrepreneur, Logan Colton.

Brooklyn is surprised to find that while she has been successful in keeping the opposite sex at bay, somehow she is defenseless against Logan’s confidence and charm—and it doesn’t hurt that he is absurdly beautiful. While thrilled with Logan’s candor, Brooklyn hesitates, as she can’t seem to move past the heartache that she suffered at the hands of Damon.

As much as Logan didn’t plan on pursuing her, he is drawn to Brooklyn’s muted beauty and her witty persona. For all his success, Logan is ensnared in the coveted world of unequivocal wealth and power, but behind closed doors is taunted by demons and an undeniable need to atone for a monumental mistake.

As the two embark on a tumultuous obstacle course saturated with unknown twists and turns, Brooklyn is left to question whether she can endure the journey ahead.

Excerpt

"I couldn’t breathe. I saw her below me. I couldn’t make out her face, but I knew she was someone close. Something was wrapped around her ankles, I thrust myself deeper into the darkness. The salty red water was all around me. Claps of thunder rang in my ears, but I plunged further into the bottomless abyss. Intense fear gripped my heart valve so tightly I thought it would burst, but I knew she needed me."

About the Author:

I love to read. I’m a huge fan of books and when I start reading anything, I usually forgo doing everything else, I mean the housework will still be there in the morning (right?). When I love a story or book that I’ve downloaded, I usually refrain from sleep and am crabby the next day – but only until I pick my iPad up and start reading again!

The idea for my debut novel HiT 149, came to me as I was chopping my vegetables for dinner and before the night was over I had written 10 chapters! My goal with writing is just to take people away from whatever is going on in their lives, even if it’s only for a split second.

I’m a go with the flow sort of person and don’t really take a course of action to get where I am going. I live in the moment and don’t usually worry about tomorrow because whatever life is due to bring me, I’ll be happy to accept.

I love my family and friends and will help anyway I can if someone needs it. But I can be a bit daft sometimes and need to be told very specifically or it’ll go over my head! I really don’t like people that are nasty just because they can be, I don’t believe that’s necessary, I mean life is hard enough as it is!
I hope you enjoy my books, I’ve had a hoot writing them. There’s more to come, and not all from the same series……

Til next time

Twinsie Talk Book Reviews Presents Saving Alexander by Susan Mac Nicol Blog Tour Stop

Punishing himself for a horrific past that is not his fault, bestselling author Alexander Montgomery seeks redemption and love—and perhaps he will find it.

Famous author though he may be, Alexander Montgomery is not someone you take home to meet Mother. Seriously flawed, damaged by a horrific past, he’s trying hard to claw his way back to normality. But how can anyone respect what he truly is? His therapy involves regular sessions at Study in Scarlet, an exclusive S&M club.

Then comes Sage. Tall, with black hair and blue eyes, an up-and-coming actor with impossible charm and boy-next-door good looks, he’s the perfect choice to play the leading man in a TV adaptation of Alex’s last best-seller. Even more, he is a man you introduce to your family. Which Alex would do—if he weren’t taken by another man who offers the punishments Alex prays will wipe away the past and make him the person he wants to be. Yet, perhaps there is another path to redemption. If only the solution would reach out and touch him.

My Review

5 of 5 Saving Alexander/Evan

OKAY THIS ONE COMES WITH A WARNING: SO THIS IS THE WARNING. THIS IS AN ADULT BOOK AND MY REVIEW MAY HAVE SOME VULGAR LANGUAGE IN IT AND THIS IS A MALE/MALE BOOK SO BE FOR WARNED!

Okay now that I got that out of the way I have to say a huge THANK YOU to Dee and Kindle Alexander for suggesting this book and the authors other books to me because HOLY FREAKING MOTHER LOVER I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book and Stripped Bare from Susan. She has this knack for slowing letting you in and grabbing you and before you know it you are invested in these characters and you feel what they feel and you find yourself yelling at your kindle wondering what in the hell just happened.

Saving Alexander is one of the best M/M books I have read so far this year. Man Alexander AKA Alex is a lost and tortured soul. He has come from a dark and abused path and has made a name for himself writing novels. His series is now becoming a TV series and he is holding casting calls to choose who will play the leading characters. Alex has in mind who the main male character should be and he gets his wishes when the actor he finds intriguing and gorgeous auditions for the part and actually wants it.

Christopher Sage is gorgeous and smart and talented and he is gay. Yes folks I said it he is gay and he is one fine specimen and Alex has a crush on him. So when Sage agrees to take the part of the main character Alex is thrilled but at the same time he is nervous because Alex wants Sage but he has a past that won't allow him to give himself to another in a normal relationship. See Alex was held as a sex slave in a cult and he goes to a BDSM club to get his therapy in the form of rough sex and beatings. With this knowledge Alex knows Sage would never go for him being with another man as well as being with him. But soon Sage can't stay away from Alex and Alex can't stay away from Sage.

As they navigate through their relationship Sage never let's go Alex and as they get closer they find that they love each other and need each other but someone or more than one person is determined to have Alex all to themselves and starts to sabotage the set they are filming and they try and hurt Sage but together the two are determined to fight for what feels so right. Sage loves Alex and proves it everyday when he does not walk out on him. But will it be to much when someone tries to hurt Alex and they make Sage choose between Alex or his life. Which will Sage choose?

This is a MUST READ for everyone! Lord I need more from Susan because I sat in my room and read all night until I was done reading and I laughed and I cried and I will never look at the words Tallulah & Chrysippus the same again! Thank you Susan for this wonderful story of love and trust and friendship and overcoming abuse!

Goodreads:

My Review

5 of 5 Howling Heart

First I have to say that I love reading books about werewolves but this was a different take on wolves and the origin in which they came from. I also love reading about Norse Gods because the Scandinavian history is so strong and so diverse that I found myself delving in deep with this book and I could not have been happier.

Paige has just graduated from college and is determined to be at the top of her career and no matter what happens she will work her butt of to get there. So as she is working and enjoying her new life she has a set back when she gets news that her father has died. Paige is sad and leaves right away to go to her fathers cabin and bury him. On her way there to the cabin she gets into a accident and when she wakes up she realizes she is somewhere else. She also notices the handsome guy staring at her. When she asks him what happened her tells her he rescued her from the accident.

Once Paige gets her mind focused she asks the stranger his name and he says it is Riley. Riley feels something for Paige but he comes from a different world and time so he is nervous but once he tells Paige everything she will have to decide whether or not to stay with him or leave and go back to her job. Riley wants Paige but will it be to much for Paige to give up the career she has worked so hard to get?

This is one hell of a paranormal read and I am so glad I read it because it is one of my top 2013 books everyone MUST READ!

Excerpt:

Riley walked away and took a few steps toward the river. With his back facing me, he stood while looking at the waterfall. It was a beautiful scene—his tall, shirtless body with his blonde hair tousled and gently blowing in the wind. He took another step and surprised me by kicking off his boots. Then, he leaned down and rolled up his pant legs. He jogged over to a cluster of large rocks, his footing quick and poised, and sat with his bare feet dangling in the water.

I yelled out, "Is it safe to do that?"

He looked at me and laughed lightly. "Yeah, it’s safe. Do you think there are piranhas or crocodiles in the river?" He continued to chuckle, and a toothy smile broke free on my face. "Don't worry. There isn't anything deadly in these waters—just harmless fish, frogs, and Northern Water snakes. They won't hurt you." He beckoned to me. "Come over here and join me. The water is nice and cool." He kicked his feet, making splashes in the water.

I was hesitant to join him, but the water intrigued me. I decided to trust him, so I walked over to the rocks. They were flat, smooth, and slick. My steps were wobbly as I tried to avoid getting a foot stuck in the cracks or slipping on the moss. Once I stood next to him, he looked up at me with a wide smile. I removed my sneakers, peeled off my socks, and rolled up my sweatpants. Riley was right. The water was pleasantly cool and refreshing.

He kicked his feet again, this time making a bigger splash. I tried to outdo him, but my smaller feet were no match for his large ones. We laughed together, but the rushing water overpowered the harmonious sound.

I stole a glance at him while he looked at the river. He leaned back casually on his elbows, and I couldn't help but admire his six-pack abs and toned chest. Little, brown moles spotted his torso, and I imagined playing connect-the-dots with my tongue. His skin enticed me, and I wanted to run my hands all over it. A lustful feeling washed over me, and I swallowed thickly, averting my gaze.

Riley chuckled low in his throat, and I knew he caught me staring. His hand touched my lower back, and I looked at him over my shoulder. A grin spread across his lips as he tugged the shirt hem.

"This is my shirt, isn't it?" My eyes widened, and I whipped my head around. In less than two seconds, my face flushed with heat.

"Um, yes," I mumbled. "Sorry. I borrowed it, because Quinn's clothes were too small for me, and I didn't feel comfortable browsing through Celia's wardrobe." The latter reason was a lie. I was just determined to cover myself with his clothes.

"No worries. I don't mind," he soothed. "You can borrow whatever you want. What's mine is yours, love."

I turned my head slightly to peek at him, grateful his focus was still on the shirt. I recalled the words he spoke earlier. "Let's say hypothetically I did stay here with you. How would we be together when I'm human and you're a wolf?" "If you're referring to us being biologically compatible, Máni and Freya blessed us, so we can breed with humans."

His foot brushed against mine under the water. It came back a second time and then a third. He sat up and scooted closer to me, until our thighs were touching. I looked over at him and almost fell into his seafoam pools. I had to regain control before I did something I would regret...like lean over and kiss those bee-stung lips.

A Rebel’s Heart, Ashwood Falls #3.5 By Lia Davis Spotlight

A Rebel’s Heart, Ashwood Falls #3.5
By Lia Davis
Part of the Fated Desires Publishing’s anthology, Ever After

Blurb:

Widow and mother of five wonderful, full grown males, Sarah Matthews lives the best she can—one day at a time. Now that her babies are having babies, she relishes in spoiling her grandkids. But her inner mountain lion is restless and Sarah can’t shake the feeling something is lurking in the woods surrounding her home. The unease becomes a reality when a man she thought died with her mate five years ago is found on her property beaten and unconscious.

Damian Archer never considered revealing his existence to his best friend’s widow. Hell he didn’t know how she’d react to knowing that he was alive for the last five years while her human mate was dead. When he got word that Sarah has become Shield’s—a human rebel organization set up to hunt and kill shapeshifters—next victim, he must go to her and uphold his best friend’s dying wish to keep Sarah safe.

Buried pain, old lies, and dangerous secrets aren’t enough to keep the sparks from flying as they try to survive a new threat against their race.

Excerpt:

Sarah Matthews was tired. Life had become lonely and less exciting. Sure she had her kids, but they had their own lives, their own families. It just wasn’t the same, and considering she’d lost a part of her soul it had become an effort to just get out of bed some days. Her mate had died a little over five years ago in a car accident that, until today, she’d believed just that.

An accident.

A case of being in the wrong place and all that.

However, today she received a package that made her wonder if her mate was indeed murdered. She opened the mailbox and frowned at the small box inside. Pulling it out, she studied it, suspicion twirling inside or mind. She put the thing to her ear and listened. She didn’t know what she’d expect to hear. A ticking from a bomb? Now she was being ridiculous. She rolled her eyes. “Ever so suspicious,” she muttered to herself.

There was no return address, nor was there a receiving one. That was odd. It was like someone had placed it in the mailbox. She didn’t hear any vehicles stop or even slow down in front of her house last night or this morning except for the mailman a few minutes ago. With her supernatural hearing, she’d heard a car pull up. Even her puma would had sensed another shifter in the area. Yet her senses didn’t go off.

Another mystery about the box in her hand.

The only writing on the top of the box was her name, hand-written.

Curiosity crept in, and after a quick sniff to make sure there weren’t any non-ticking explosives inside, she opened the box. Cold sensation went up her spine, and a hot fear burned her belly as she peered at the contents. Tears blurred her visions, and each heartbeat hurt as the wound that had slowly healed over the years was ripped back open. Inside the box was a gold wedding band with the words my love, my soul engraved on the inside. It was identical to Walt’s.

The ring he’d said he lost while working.

Underneath the ring was a slip of paper that read: You’re next.

Unable to go back into the house she and Walt had bought together, lived in, raised Nevan, and filled with their love, she ran into the woods, seeking some kind of peace. The tears fell in fat drops, soaking her cheeks and making it even harder to breathe.

She came to a stop at a large oak tree and dropped to her knees while she cradled the ring to her chest. The raw pain transformed into anger toward the sick bastards that could have done it. Whoever they were.

She peered back at the note. The two ugly words blurred as a tear dropped on them. Did this mean that Walt had been killed? If so, why? What would be the point of killing her? She didn’t have any enemies that she knew of anyway. And Walt…he was the most gentle and caring male she knew.

The sound of footsteps running in her direction made her stand and shove the note and ring into her pocket as her cat instantly went on alert. She scented the air and was relieved when she didn’t smell the acidy sweet smell of the Onyx Pack’s mutants. The half-animal, half-human creatures were not only gross; they were more powerful than she was.

The scent she did pick up belonged to a human, but there was another scent she couldn’t place, though it seemed familiar. The pounding of shoes hitting the earth grew closer, and she ducked behind the tree, unsure of what the human was doing in this part of the Smoky Mountains.

A human male ran past the tree, turned to look right at her as if he knew all along she was there, and pointed a gun right at her. Sarah gasped and fell to the ground a split second before he fired. Scrambling on hands and knees, she crawled around the tree and froze as another man barreled past her toward the human. The new man wasn’t a man, but a male puma shifter.

And she knew him.

Damian Palmer.

No, not possible. Damian had been in the car with Walt at the time of the accident. He’d died right along with his best friend. She’d seen his body, damn it.

Writing novellas in a series

I love reading the short novellas in a series. Especially in a series I’m totally addicted to. They keep me in the world while I’m not-so-patiently waiting for the next book.

Writing them is kind of the same for me. It give me a change to veer off the current path of the series and write a story about a secondary character or two and weave their lives into the everyday happenings of the series.

What about you? Do you like the series novellas?

Ever After Anthology

From five bestselling authors comes five brand new novellas sure to heat up the night.

From Carrie Ann Ryan‘s Dante’s Circle series, a demon from the fiery depths of hell must make his choice to follow in the footsteps of his father or love the submissive wolf who lays claim to his heart in His Choice.

From Rebecca Royce‘s brand new series, the Alphas of each Werewolf Pack are on the brink of war. Travis Michaels will use all in his power to keep innocent Lilliana out of danger and into his arms…away from rival Alpha Cyrus Fennell.

From Lia Davis’s Ashwood Falls series, buried pain, old lies, and dangerous secrets aren’t enough to keep the sparks from flying as Sarah Mathews and rebel leader, Damian Archer, try to survive a new threat against their race.

From Leia Shaw’s Shadows of Destiny series, a war is brewing in the supernatural world.
